BIO
Joel Cowell Jr, better known as ‘JBird’ (pronounced ‘JAY-Bird’) is a producer and keyboardist. Born in San Francisco and raised in the East Bay, he got his start as a child watching his father’s band’s rehearsals. The eldest of 5 brothers, Joel began taking music seriously during his teens. He and his brothers eventually began jamming at home with one another, eventually forming their family band The Brotet. Joel was fortunate during this time to witness outstanding young musicians emerging out of Berkeley High’s jazz program and participate as a student through the Oaktown Jazz Workshops. Soon after getting his feet wet in jazz, Joel’s family moved out of the Bay Area, which led to finding a permanent place in time for his senior year to shine his talents at Enterprise High School.
Joel continued his music studies and creative exploration, while attending University of Nevada in Reno on a full scholarship. It was this time when he devoted more energy into recording his compositions, along with producing fellow classmates who either sung or rapped. Having been coached extensively by his father over the years, Joel’s production methods evolved and allowed him to intertwine multiple genres into his own musical style.
Since then Joel adopted the producer alias “JBird,” and has been privileged to collaborate with many artists including Jeff Bernat, Jesse Barrera, Jeremy Passion, Andrew Garcia, Sango, Monte Booker, Smino, Esta, Joyce Wrice, and Mr. Carmack. In the last few years JBird has also traveled to South Korea, having worked with Korean artists such as Jun K, Dean, Heize, G-Soul, Chancellor, k-pop group Winner, LeeHi, Crush, and Hoody.
